Welcome to SouthPoint
We exist to help people far from God find life in Christ.
If the word "church" makes you feel a little heavy, we completely understand. We believe church should be a safe space, not a performance. At SouthPoint, you can leave the dress codes and the "perfect" act at the door.
We are a community for the unchurched and the dechurched. Whether you haven’t stepped foot in a church in years or you’ve never been at all, you belong here. We want you to connect with your Creator through relevant messages and leave with a little more joy in your step. It’s simple and authentic. Honestly, we can’t think of a better place to be.
We meet every Sunday with three service times to choose from— 8:30am, 10:00am, and 11:30am. If you’re a first time guest the Link Team is set up in the lobby ready to welcome you, and the Info Desk has people there if you’re wanting to sign up for an event or learn more about what we’ve got going on.
Our Story— Craig & Patti Wendel
From Michigan to Mississippi Back in 1989, Craig preached his very first sermon at a homeless shelter in Detroit. He felt completely unqualified and a little bit terrified. Fast forward through years of college, youth ministry, and time on the mission field. In 2005, God called us to do something that made us feel those same "scared and unqualified" jitters all over again.
A Church We Actually Wanted to Attend When God first nudged us to move to the Memphis area to plant a church, we actually hesitated. We grew up in traditional environments where we didn't feel comfortable inviting our own friends. We didn't want to build just another religious institution.
God’s response changed everything for us. He told us, "I didn't ask you to change who you are. Plant a church that YOU would actually want to go to."
The SouthPoint Journey
We packed up our family and headed to Olive Branch, Mississippi, in the spring of 2006. After months of preparation, SouthPoint was born at the Malco movie theater on January 21, 2007. Every Sunday morning, we’d haul our gear in and out. We worked hard to create a space for people to find hope while the smell of movie popcorn was still in the air.
As the church grew, so did our own lives. Our family has expanded over the years to include new faces, soon-to-be in-laws, and even a few beloved dogs! We’ve been blessed with so many incredible friends who have become part of our story.
Today, we’ve transitioned from those theater seats to a thriving community of partners. While our size has changed, our mission hasn't budged. We are still that same group of people dedicated to being a safe place for you to explore faith. We’ve been running toward that vision since 2007, and we’re so glad you’re part of the family.
